Tennis legend Serena Williams drops ad teasing her return to tennis

(CNN, KYMA) - Tennis legend Serena Williams is returning to competition after dropping an ad on social media teasing her return.

Organizers of the HSBC Championships say the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion will play in the doubles tournament at Queen's Club in London next week.

This will mark Williams' first competitive match in more than three years.

The 44-year-old last played at the U.S. Open in 2022, where she lost in the third round.

At the time, Williams said she was "evolving away from tennis," but never formally announced her retirement.

The tournament begins June 6.
