TCL Chinese Theatre rededicates Marilyn Monroe Fountain in honor of her 100th birthday

UPDATE (1:56 PM): Hollywood celebrated what would have been the 100th birthday of Marilyn Monroe, one of the silver screen's most enduring stars, Monday.

The TCL Chinese Theatre hosted a birthday party honoring the legendary bombshell.

A Marilyn Monroe impersonator had the honor of cutting the cake and belting out a rendition of "Happy birthday."

It was part of a rededication of Monroe's famous hand prints and footprints in concrete at the theater.

In June of 1953, Monroe and Jane Russell cemented their hands, feet and autographs in wet cement to promote their new movie "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes."

Monroe's slab of cement is the most popular of the many honoring stars of Hollywood's Golden Age in the theater's courtyard.

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KYMA, NBC) - The TCL Chinese Theatre is holding a rededication ceremony of the Marilyn Monroe Fountain in honor of what would have been her 100th birthday.

According to a press release obtained by NBC News, the fountain was built to benefit an orphanage in Hollywood where she once lived.

During the ceremony, there will be a visit to her handprints in the theater's forecourt, cake being served to those who attend, a fan singalong of "Happy Birthday," 100 fresh "Marilyn" red roses to the first 100 fans who attend, and free postcards of Monroe's handprint ceremony back in 1953.

Sugar Kiper, an official Marilyn Monroe look-alike, and Lawrence Schiller, a photographer who knew Monroe, are expected to attend the ceremony.

Over the weekend, over 1,000 people in Palm Springs broke the world record for the most people dressed like the Hollywood icon.
