FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking the return of extreme heat and higher humidity this week

Weather Authority/ KYMA

Tracking extreme and dangerous heat with increasing humidity this week. It’s going to be a hot and humid week ahead for the Desert Southwest. That’s why I am issuing Weather Authority First Alert Action Days through Friday.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA-TV)- The extreme heat is back, and the humidity is back on the rise. Temperatures are going to be hot, but the humidity will make it feel even hotter.

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is in effect until 8 pm Friday for the Desert Southwest due to the heat.

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect until 8 p.m. FRIDAY for the Desert Southwest due to dangerously hot and humid conditions.

Highs will be between 106-114 degrees, and overnight lows between 80-91 degrees. With the heat and higher humidity, heat index levels will also be high. Our "feels like temperatures" will be between 110-120 degrees.

This extreme heat warning is also in effect due to consistent heat for the next several days and no relief even at night.

It's been a dry few days, but dew points are back on the rise, which lead to muggy conditions yet again.

We have a ridge of high pressure building back into the Desert southwest this week, which will turn up the heat this week, but filtering in more monsoonal moisture.

Chance for thunderstorm chances are expected to rise later this week.

We will have little to no relief from the heat and humidity, so make sure to practice heat safety all hours of the day.

Keep in mind when we have high humidity, it makes it harder for our bodies to cool off and can lead to higher chances for heat-related illnesses.

Temperatures aren't going to be the hottest we have seen this summer, but these temperatures are still dangerous and with the high humidity it will feel hotter.

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day will stay in effect through Friday. Stay cool and hydrated.
