LAFD receives star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - Almost a year after the devastating Palisades and Eaton Fires swept Southern California, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) was presented with a special honor in Hollywood Friday.

The LAFD received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and it's thanks to a letter written by an eighth grader.

Eniola Taiwo, a 14-year-old student from Connecticut, wrote to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce after watching news coverage of the fires in January.

She explained that while first responders aren't traditional celebrities, they deserve the recognition, and the Chamber of Commerce agreed.

"I've seen on shows all these big fires, and you don't think that's real in your life, and then you see on the news and you find out that real people are battling this. And I don't think I could deal with something like this myself. So I thought that the heroes, the firefighters that do deal with these fires every day that they should be recognized."
