FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Showers & storms for the Desert Southwest

Remnants from Mario is bringing in rain and storms to the Desert Southwest through Friday morning. There's also risks of heavy rainfall and flooding.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - An area of tropical moisture from Mario is expected to bring rain and storm potential Thursday.

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is issued through Friday morning due to the potential of heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding and gusty winds.

Flood WATCH is in effect for both Yuma and Imperial Counties until 2 a.m. Friday morning.

Excessive rainfall is possible with rain totals of 0.10"-0.50", with some areas possibly reaching over 1.00". Excessive runoff may result in flooding in streams, low-lying, and flood-prone areas.

Here's what our rain estimates are looking through Friday, rain totals right now are looking between a tenth and a quarter of an inch. Higher amounts will be in thunderstorms.

We did get some light showers overnight and early this morning in some areas. But Imperial County got slammed with heavy rain this evening with multiple thunderstorms and flash flood warnings. Here are the latest and updated rain totals recorded for today.

Showers and storms will be possible through early Friday morning across the Desert Southwest.

There are small and slight chances for isolated showers for Friday.

Humidity and slightly cooler temperatures will continue into Friday with slight chances for showers and storms being possible.

Tracking drier and warmer than normal temperatures for next week.
