YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Our Weather Authority First Alert ACTION DAY will now extend into the weekend across the Desert Southwest.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has extended the Extreme Heat Warning from Friday until Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. due to the dangerous heat conditions across the desert.

With the record heat, both Yuma and Imperial Counties tied or beat heat records two days in a row!

On Thursday, August 7, Yuma tied their previous 2001 record at 114 degrees. El Centro beat their previous 1970 record by one degree at a high of 118.

On Wednesday August 6, Yuma tied their 1995 record 30 years later at 115 degrees. El Centro beat their old 2018 record by one degree again at 115.

NWS reports dangerously hot conditions will range from 108 to 117 degrees. Moderate to localized major heatrisk will continue through early next week.

Take extra precautions to limit over exposure, reduce strenuous outdoor activity, and stay hydrated to limit heat related illnesses.
