Man accused of fatal Yuma hit-and-run extradited from New York

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The man involved in a fatal hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a woman appeared in court for the first time in Yuma.

35-year-old Donavan Jamal Thomas was extradited from the state of New York on May 16.

He was wanted in connection to a fatal hit-and-run crash which left 34-year-old Ijah Se'lah Smith dead.

After being extradited to Yuma, Thomas was booked into the Yuma County Detention Center for first degree murder, kidnapping and leaving the scene of an accident with death or injury.

According to his attorney, initial evidence in this case still needs to be reviewed and requested more time.

Thomas' bond is still set at $1 million.

He will be back in court August 21 for a final management conference.
