FIRST ALERT: Tracking tropical moisture to bring showers and storms this weekend

A brief warm-up moves in Friday, but due to a weather pattern change and tropical moisture, we can expect showers and storms for the weekend.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - We have cloudier skies with us today, but it is staying comfortably dry here at the surface with warm temperatures.

However, I am tracking lots of tropical moisture down to our south.

Tropical Storm Alvin has developed earlier this morning and as of now it's path is moving north and will remain a tropical storm through Saturday. However, the remnants is expected to keeping traveling north bringing in showers and storms to the Desert Southwest this weekend.

This tropical moisture will bring in chance for scattered to widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms starting Saturday night-Sunday. Sunday is the best chance for showers and storms.

Rain totals right now are looking about a tenth of an inch or less, and higher amounts are in thunderstorms. Rain totals are still uncertain as of now., but stay tuned for the latest forecast updates!

A weather pattern change will also bring in cooler temperatures this weekend, as a lower pressure system from the south moves closer to the Desert Southwest.

Our warmest day of the week will be Friday then our temperatures will begin to cool down this weekend leading to slightly below normal early next week.

We will also see cloudier skies and rain expected this weekend with the greatest chance looking Sunday. It's looking to be a wet start to June.

I am issuing a First Alert ACTION DAY due to the likely chances for showers and storms and possible measurable rain on Saturday night- Sunday for the Desert Southwest.
