Senate confirms Linda McMahon as Secretary of Education

WASHINGTON (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - The U.S. Senate confirmed Linda McMahon as Secretary of Education in 51-45 on Monday.

President Donald Trump has long teased the possibility of closing the Department of Education, and he could be closer to making good on his pledge.

Since taking office, the president has signed several education-related executive orders and multiple sources confirm he is considering executive action that would essentially dismantle the agency.

This week, Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) slashed nearly $1 billion in funding from the department and terminated dozens of contracts and grants related to diversity, equity and inclusion.
