Tracking a seasonable and wonderful start to the fall season
Fall is here! We are starting off the season with comfortable conditions and seasonable temperatures. I am tracking slightly warmer temperatures and possible rain chances in the days ahead.
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Happy Tuesday, and Happy first day of Fall! Fall is set to officially begin in the Desert Southwest at 5:05 pm. (so very soon). Sunset is also going to be earlier and will be at 6:37 pm, which is a sign fall is here due to the earlier sunsets.
What is fall and what does it mean?
The Autumnal Equinox is when the Earth's axis is tilted neither toward nor away from the sun, resulting in a "nearly" equal amount of daylight and darkness at all latitudes. The word "equinox" comes from the Latin words "aequalis" and "nox," meaning "equal night."
For us, this means we have slightly cooler temperatures, later sunrises, and earlier sunsets.
So far today it's been a seasonable and nice day overall; it's been a great start to the season. For our first night of the fall season, it will be clear, calm, with comfortably dry conditions and cooler temperatures.
It's a great evening ahead to be outdoors and enjoy the first night of the fall season.
I am tracking a low-pressure system that may grab some moisture into the area. Shower chances will favor eastern Arizona by the middle of the week. Higher chances for showers in the Desert Southwest are looking to favor later this week and early next week.
TRACKING THE TROPICS: Hurricane Polo has intensified into major hurricane overnight at a Category 5 hurricane with sustained winds of 160 MPH. Now, Polo is reading 180 MPH winds and could have stronger winds tonight.
Polo is expected to remain offshore, but is expected to bring heavy rain, flooding, and dangerous coastal swells.
Due to the strong winds it may steer in some moisture to the southwest, which could bring in some clouds, humidity, and rain chances later this week and next week. It is still very uncertain, but this is something I am tracking.
We do have slight chances for isolated showers and storms heading into Wednesday. Take a look at tomorrow's outlook.
LOOKING AHEAD: Chance for rain is looking to increase on Thursday with slight chances Friday and even on Sunday. The highest chance for showers are looking to favor next Monday.
Temperatures are expected to warm up to slightly above-normal levels come late this week and into the weekend.
I am watching for rain chances being possible later this week and into early next week Stay tuned.
