An inside look of the courtroom during the opening trial for one suspect in a fatal house shooting
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Thursday was opening statements in the trial of a man accused of murdering two young men at a house party in Yuma. Both the defense and prosecution presented their sides to the jury.
20-year-old Jose Lopez is accused of being involved in the mass shooting that killed two people in May of 2023.
During opening statements, the state shared more evidence with the jury that they've collected in this case.
The state says 31 shots were fired in eight seconds during the shooting. Lopez is facing two counts of first-degree murder and five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The defendant has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges. The trial will resume on Tuesday and is expected to last three weeks.
