Locals honor the memory of Danny Marròn

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma residents are sharing their fondest memories of Danny Marròn as they continue to honor his legacy.

On Valentine's Day, Marròn went missing after he went for a "typical paddle" on his outrigger canoe in South Mission Beach in San Diego, but "did not return home," according to a GoFundMe Marròn's family created, which has since raised over $27,000.

This prompted the San Diego Sector Coast Guard to conduct a search, but was suspended on Sunday, February 16.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department found a body in the Ocean Beach area last Wednesday, which they later confirmed as Marròn.

Marròn was a professor at Arizona Western College (AWC), a former counselor at Gila Ridge High School, and according to the GoFundMe, a member of the San Diego paddle community.

Danyelle Burke North will speak with locals on Marròn's impact to the Yuma community later this evening.
