18-year-old dead after being shot

SOMERTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) said an 18-year-old died due to gunshot wounds.

Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle crash and shots fired in the area of Avenue B and County 18th Street on Tuesday evening.

YCSO said deputies found the vehicle and a man with gunshot wounds.

“Upon arrival, deputies were able to locate the vehicle along with the victim who sustained gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead," stated Tania Pavlak, YCSO Public Affairs Specialist.

The victim was later identified as 18-year-old Iza Granillo from Yuma.

Deputies have not disclosed how many times the young man was shot and no word on what could have been the possible motive.

“At this time a suspect or suspects have not been arrested. It is an ongoing investigation," stated Pavlak.

The next of kin notification has been made.
