Yuma woman’s sentence delayed
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma woman convicted of attempted murder for shooting her ex-boyfriend in the head on Interstate 8 was in court Tuesday to be sentenced but it was delayed.
22-year-old Andrea Contreras appeared at the El Centro Superior Courthouse ready to learn how much time she will spend behind bars.
However, there was a request from the probation department to delay the sentencing.
The senior deputy district attorney explains why this happened.
“So they can do a very detailed sentencing report for the court that would be to talk to the various parties who are involved and give a recommendation as far as sentencing to the court," stated Anthony Valente, Imperial County Senior Deputy District Attorney.
Last month, Contreras was found guilty of attempted murder willfully discharging a firearm, and inflicting bodily injury on a victim.
The District Attorney’s Office said she can face 32 years to life behind bars.
Sentencing was rescheduled for January 30.
