One woman arrested for aggravated assault

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The woman arrested in Yuma following a car crash, traffic stop, and short police chase appeared in court Wednesday afternoon for the first time.

The 41-year-old woman is facing three felonies including aggravated assault on officers as well as three misdemeanors.

“Four counts of aggravated assault involving a law enforcement officer, each felony, aggravated driving under the influence with a driver’s license restricted, a felony, unlawful flight from pursuing law enforcement vehicle, felony," said Judge Gregory Stewart, Yuma County Justice Court.

It all started Tuesday night around 8:45 p.m.

Police said the woman hit a Border Patrol vehicle on Third Street and 11th Avenue.

“Officers went to make contact with the driver of the Nissan Altima, refused to give name, refused to give any information and then fled the scene," said Sgt. Lori Franklin, Yuma Police Department.

Less than two hours later, officers saw her again at the Chevron on First Street and Fourth Avenue.

They tried to stop her but Sgt. Franklin said, “She put the vehicle in reverse, hit two of our patrol cars, missed two of our officers and then took off again.”

After what police call a short pursuit, officers arrested the woman two blocks away.

Police say the woman was under the influence of alcohol.

“I’m going to grant the request of the state and set bond at this stage, a secured appearance bond in the amount of $80,0000," said Judge Stewart.

She will be back in court on Friday to be formally charged.

No one was injured.
