“The Roving Rabbis” pay a visit to the Jewish community in Yuma

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - As part of a seven-decade-old program called "The Roving Rabbis," two rabbinical students are visiting over 40 cities in Arizona as part of their community outreach training.

Rabbi Ari Oirechman and Rabbi Mendel Slonim started their Arizona journey in Yuma, where they connected with about 30 Jewish people in the community.

The rabbis were in Yuma for five days, reaching out to members of the Jewish community in the region, listening and speaking with them as they sought to reinvigorate people's Jewish connections.

For the rabbis-in-training, this summer assignment provides an important on-the-ground experience in Jewish outreach and the challenges of smaller Jewish communities.

The goal of the program is to make Judaism accessible to every Jew, wherever they may be.
