Hazardous waste facility meeting canceled

The meeting was initially going to be held on July 13

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The public meeting Sydcol, a hazardous waste company, was planning on hosting to inform the community about the special use permit for a hazardous waste facility in Yuma has been canceled.

The plan to expand a hazardous waste operation just one block away from Yuma Palms mall and near farmland is raising a lot of eyebrows.

Sydcol’s facility is prepared to handle and store hazardous waste.

The applicant, symbol is an environmental services facility providing economical and technically innovative hazardous and non-hazardous waste management services for California and Arizona.

After much back and forth, the planning and zoning commission did approve the special use permit for Sydcol’s hazardous waste facility in April of 2023.

The final decision regarding the special use permit will come from the Yuma County Board of Supervisors at their meeting on August 7.
