FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Heavy showers hit the desert southwest

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A Weather Authority First Alert ACTION DAY for our desert southwest as heavy rain showers hit the desert southwest.

A flood watch and warning went into effect for parts of Imperial and Yuma counties. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), showers and thunderstorms are likely over much of the area possibly again on Tuesday.

Gusty winds, blowing dust, heavy rainfall, and localized flooding will all be possible, especially through this evening.

NWS tracks temperatures cool off over the next couple days, dropping to below normal starting Tuesday.

Drying conditions during the latter half of the week will greatly diminish rain chances across the area by the end of the week.
