FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking clearing conditions after overnight showers

Weather Authority / KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - After overnight showers brought rain to parts of the Desert Southwest, conditions are beginning to clear across Yuma and Imperial counties as the wet weather system moves out of the region.

Rainfall was mainly light to moderate across the lower deserts overnight and into early Sunday morning, with showers moving through Yuma and El Centro before gradually tapering off.

While additional showers and thunderstorms remain possible across portions of Arizona this afternoon, the main band of rain has already moved through the immediate Yuma and Imperial Valley areas.

There is still a chance for isolated strong to severe thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and evening, primarily east of the Colorado River. The main concern with any stronger storms will be damaging wind gusts.

Across Yuma and El Centro, skies are expected to remain mostly sunny for the rest of Sunday, although breezy conditions will stick around.

Yuma is forecast to reach a high near 77°F this afternoon, with west winds between 10 and 15 mph and gusts up to 25 mph.

El Centro will also see a high near 77°F, but winds will be a bit stronger, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph.

By Monday morning, the threat of rain will come to an end across the region, with winds gradually calming down and sunny skies returning.

Temperatures will remain comfortable to start the new workweek, with highs near 77°F in Yuma and 78°F in El Centro on Monday.

Overnight lows will dip into the mid 50s before temperatures gradually climb into the upper 70s by Tuesday.

A dry and quieter weather pattern is expected to stick around throughout the upcoming week, with daytime temperatures slowly warming closer to seasonal averages by the middle of the week.

After a wet Halloween weekend, the Desert Southwest is looking ahead to plenty of sunshine and more comfortable conditions in the days ahead.
