Tracking another clear day, with continued breezy winds and dry conditions

Weather Authority / KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Mostly sunny skies, dry conditions and temperatures near to slightly above seasonal averages are expected across the Desert Southwest to start the upcoming week.

In Yuma, afternoon highs will remain in the mid to upper 80s through Tuesday, with mostly clear skies overnight and lows in the lower 60s.

Sunday afternoon is expected to reach around 86°F before temperatures climb slightly to 87°F on Monday.

Highs will then settle near 86 degrees again on Tuesday. Winds will generally remain light out of the northeast, with occasional gusts reaching up to 20 miles per hour.

Across the Imperial Valley, similar conditions are expected. El Centro will see afternoon highs in the mid 80s, with Sunday's high near 84°F reaching 85°F on Monday and 86°F on Tuesday.

Overnight temperatures will be slightly cooler than Yuma, with lows dipping into the upper 50s.

Overall, dry weather and occasional breezy conditions will remain the dominant pattern across the region through much of the upcoming week. Temperatures are expected to stay near to slightly above daily averages, providing plenty of sunshine for communities throughout Yuma and Imperial Counties.

While conditions will remain relatively calm locally, expect some gusty winds during the morning hours across ridge tops and terrain gaps in south-central Arizona over the next couple of days. This is a typical weather pattern for this time of year, and anticipated wind speeds are not expected to be particularly unusual.

Looking further ahead, the dry pattern could begin to change toward the end of the week. Rain chances may return to the region as a potential weather system moves toward the Southwest, bringing the possibility of increased shower activity heading into next weekend.

The timing and overall impact of that system remain uncertain, but it could provide the region with its next opportunity for precipitation following several days of mostly dry weather.

For now, residents across the Desert Southwest can expect plenty of sunshine, warm afternoons and relatively mild overnight temperatures through the first half of the week, with attention turning toward the potential for rain later on.
