Tracking a cool and cloudy Saturday across the region

Weather Authority / KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Cooler temperatures and calmer winds are continuing across Yuma and Imperial counties this weekend following several days of gusty conditions across the Desert Southwest.

Clouds are sticking around Saturday, with afternoon highs reaching around 81°F in Yuma and 82°F in El Centro. Winds have eased, with breezes generally staying light throughout the afternoon.

There is a slight chance for showers in El Centro this afternoon, although widespread rainfall is not expected across the immediate area. Rain chances are increasing across parts of Arizona this weekend, with the best opportunities for measurable rainfall focused over higher elevations.

By Sunday, skies are expected to clear, with sunshine returning to both communities. Highs will reach around 85°F in Yuma and El Centro, with light winds continuing.

Temperatures will gradually warm into the start of next week, with highs climbing into the upper 80s by Monday. Overnight lows will remain in the 60s, keeping mornings cool and comfortable across the region.

Looking ahead, another weather system moving into the Southwest during the middle to latter part of next week could bring better chances for rain, along with the possibility of a few thunderstorms and cooler temperatures.

For now, the main takeaway is a calmer and cooler weekend, with lighter winds and a gradual warmup expected heading into next week.
