Region on verge of extreme heat warning

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Temperatures have taken a hop once again. Sunday's highs are anticipated to reach 109°F in both Yuma and El Centro. Expect these conditions around 5 p.m.

An Extreme Heat Warning will be in effect at 10 a.m. Monday. As of right now, it's running through the work week with an end time of Friday at 8 p.m.

Wind gusts will be steady throughout the day with speeds in the low-to-mid teens across the Desert Southwest.

However, as the evening starts to roll in, the Imperial Valley will see a rise in winds up to the range of 17-20 mph.

Yuma County will stay consistent heading into the night. Ocotillo remains an outlier with gusts reaching upwards of 35-40 mph around 6 p.m. and lasting into the late night.

For Monday, temperatures will cross over the 110°F threshold and will remain in the low 110s throughout the stretch of the extreme heat warning.

On the bright side, clouds are trending to clear the Desert Southwest skies in the early evening and should only return sporadically throughout the week, if at all.
