Tracking a slow warming trend into the work week

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - We have seen seasonable temperatures throughout the weekend, but I'm tracking increasing temperatures into the work week.

The high temperature in Yuma on Saturday is tracking to reach 106°F. In El Centro, the high is expected to reach 109°F.

Those temps put us in the moderate HeatRisk Level. I'm tracking our region to stay in the moderate level until Thursday. Temperatures are expected to rise to 111°F in Yuma and 113°F in El Centro. Putting us into the major HeatRisk Level. There's a good chance we see some Extreme Heat Warnings returning to our region this week.

We are still seeing some cloud cover on Sunday. It's been a cloudy week and we are tracking that to continue into this upcoming week. Although, the humid conditions we have felt this past week are dissipating. I'm tracking to see more dry conditions this week, with dew points back to seasonable averages.

Winds have been moderate this weekend. Gusts are tracking to remain similar to what we have experienced this weekend.

On Sunday evening around 7:00 p.m., gusts in Yuma County are tracking to be in the 14-19 miles per hour range. In Imperial County, gusts will be slightly stronger in the 23-28 miles per hour range.

By Monday morning around 8:00 a.m., I'm tracking similar gusts across the region. Wind gusts are expected to be in the 12-19 miles per hour range across the Desert Southwest. Into the evening hours, around 6:00 p.m., Yuma County should expect to see similar gusts. Imperial County will be back into the 25-27 miles per hour range.

Prepare for warm temperatures, especially during the back half of our work week. Again, I'm tracking major HeatRisk Levels by Thursday.

Be sure to be practicing those heat safety tips throughout the week. Drinking plenty of water, spending time in the shade or air conditioned spaces and wearing lightweight clothing to stay cool and hydrated as the increasing temps hit our region.
