Tracking a comfortable Father’s Day, temperature increase into work week

Weather Authority / KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - After a pleasant Father's Day weekend across the Desert Southwest, warm and dry conditions are expected to remain in place as we begin a new week.

High pressure continues to dominate the region, keeping skies mostly clear and temperatures near seasonal averages. While afternoon highs will remain in the triple digits, they are expected to stay below the extreme heat levels often seen this time of year.

In Yuma, temperatures this afternoon are tracking to climb to around 106°F, with plenty of sunshine throughout the day. Overnight lows will fall into the upper 70s and lower 80s, providing some relief from the daytime heat.

Across the Imperial Valley, highs are forecast to reach approximately 107°F today under mostly sunny skies.

Winds will generally remain light through much of the day. During the afternoon and evening hours, breezy conditions are expected to develop, particularly in Imperial County.

By this evening, wind speeds in Yuma County are expected to range between 10 and 15 mph, while portions of the Imperial Valley could see gusts between 20 and 25 mph, especially near open desert areas.

Looking ahead, the weather pattern remains fairly quiet through the middle of the week. Temperatures are expected to stay in the low-to-mid 100s.

Although temperatures are near normal for late June, heat safety remains important. Anyone spending extended time outdoors should continue to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces or shaded areas.

Overall, residents can expect another stretch of typical early-summer weather across Yuma County and the Imperial Valley. Although we will see temps increase during the week. By Wednesday we're tracking highs of 111°F in Yuma and 112°F in the Imperial Valley.
