Gradually warming into the weekend

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - Today is the official start of the Monsoon Season for Arizona, and the majority of the state had a very wet 2022 monsoon last year.

According to the National Weather Service Phoenix, most of the state saw well above-normal rainfall, and this monsoon tied for the seventh wettest July-September on record.

The wet weather we did experience during the monsoon months did bring significant improvements to our short-term drought for most of the state.

Here in Yuma had below-average rainfall, which is why we are still holding on to dry conditions with our drought.

Near to above-normal temperatures are expected for this weekend as a ridging pattern starts to build over the region.

Make sure to remember our heat safety tips and always find ways to stay cool and drink plenty of water.

Temperatures will peak on Saturday and Sunday, with the hottest temperatures so far this year expected for many locations.

Dry conditions will persist for the next several days, with a slight cooldown anticipated to start next week.

Breezy evenings are expected for the next couple of evenings across the area, where stronger winds will continue to favor portions of Imperial County.

Take a look below at our future wind gusts, highest gusts are expected to peak at 25 MPH for tomorrow.
