Cloudy, rainy, and chilly start to the week

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - As a winter storm system is pushing through our area it brought snow to the higher elevations and mountains in Northern Arizona and California this morning.

Here in the Desert Southwest, we have been experiencing cloudy skies and light rain showers this afternoon.

For the rest of our Monday, a weak storm system will push through the area where light rain chances are possible for the evening before we gradually clear out later tonight.

Colder temperatures will approach tonight as lows will drop into the low the upper and low 30s.

I'm tracking the coldest days of the season to soon arrive tomorrow where afternoon highs are expected to reach the upper 50s.

There's a Freeze Watch for portions of Yuma county that will go into effect at 12 a.m. Tuesday until 9 a.m. Wednesday and then again at 12 a.m. Wednesday until 9 a.m. Thursday for temperatures reaching the low 30s.

As we have colder days ahead of us make sure to prepare and take action now to make sure plants, crops, and pipes are covered.

Those who have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain and cover ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
