FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking extended extreme heat and increasing humidity

Our extreme heat warning is EXTENDED yet again due to the ongoing heat and humid conditions. With the higher humidity, it is making it feel even hotter outside. I am also EXTENDING our Weather Authority First Alert Action Day until 8 pm Sunday for the Desert Southwest.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - It's been two weeks that an extreme heat warning has been in effect for Yuma and Imperial Valley.

And an Extreme Heat Warning is still in effect and has been EXTENDED once again until 8 p.m. SUNDAY for the entire Desert Southwest due to dangerously hot and humid conditions.

Highs will be between 104-118 degrees, and overnight lows between 80-92 degrees. With the heat and higher humidity heat index levels will also be high. Our "feels like temperatures" will be between 110-120 degrees.

The higher humidity is sticking around for the next several days. Take a look at our futuretrack hour-by-hour, as our dew points will stay elevated and in the 60s and even 70s.

This high humidity will make it feel even hotter than the actual air temperature. It's just going to feel very uncomfortable outside.

A ridge of high pressure will stay in place toward the east, keeping the Desert Southwest hot and also filtering monsoonal moisture. Monsoonal moisture is expected to increase through the week.

Rain and storm chances will favor further east, but outflow boundaries could bring in daily isolated to scattered showers and storms along with gusty winds at times.

Taking a look at our weather pattern set up for tomorrow, there are higher chances for storms and potential for flooding in our area.

Looking ahead to next week, there are still chances for the Desert Southwest to see above-normal rainfall. We will see, and it is something I will continue to track and bring more details.

With the ongoing heat and humid conditions I am EXTENDING our Weather Authority First Alert Action Day until 8 pm Sunday for the Desert Southwest. Make sure to take action and practice heat safety as it will be hot and sticky with little to no relief.

Plus, we are in for slightly hotter temperatures this weekend and nearing record temperatures yet again.

Keep in mind that with the extra monsoonal moisture, I am tracking breezy conditions at times with a chance for scattered showers Sunday and into Monday. We are in for slightly cooler temperatures and maybe some relief come next week.
