Warm now, hot later: Desert temps climb into the 90s by weekend

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - It's a quiet and comfortable stretch across the Desert Southwest for now.

Temperatures across Yuma and the lower desert will stay near normal through the middle of the week, with highs gradually warming into the upper 80s and right around 90 degrees by Wednesday.

Expect a mix of sunshine and increasing high clouds, but overall, calm conditions will stick around.

By Thursday, a passing weather system brings a slight chance for showers, but don't expect much. Rain chances remain low, especially here in our area, with most of the activity expected to stay off to the south and east.

The bigger story comes as we head into the weekend. A building ridge of high pressure will push temperatures higher, with desert highs climbing into the mid to upper 90s by Sunday.

Looking ahead to early next week, breezier conditions could return along with a slight cooldown, but for now, it's a steady warm-up across the region.
