Tracking great temperatures plus drier conditions arriving later this week

Temperatures are very nice and trending in the low 100s, but I am still tracking some lingering humidity for the next few days. However, we are in for noticeably drier days finally arriving later this week and into the weekend.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - We have southerly flow steering in monsoonal moisture into the area today that I will be tracking, which will bring some rain and storm activity in parts of Yuma and La Paz County this afternoon and evening.

A Flood WATCH was extended to include the majority of La Paz County and eastern/northern parts of Yuma County until 11 pm today. Multiple rounds of showers & storms are expected to lead to flash flooding across portions of the state.

Multiple and severe thunderstorms pop-up this late afternoon and early evening toward the east and north of Yuma County.

Areas toward the east saw some significant rainfall especially near Dateland. Take a look at the recorded rainfall from the National Weather Service Weather and Hazards Viewer page.

With the nearby storms, it brought some high winds and dust to Yuma County, which we were under a Dust Storm Warning for part of the evening.

The max gusts recorded for some areas in Yuma County from this evening. Some areas had gusts up to 35 MPH while others toward the north saw gusts over 50 MPH.

An Air Quality Alert is issued and in effect for parts of Imperial County through tonight due to increased particle pollution from wildfire smoke.

A nearby fire in Mexico is moving towards western Imperial County, causing higher pollution during this time period.

Looking ahead for tomorrow, thankfully I am tracking must lighter winds. We still will feel a southerly breeze but winds are looking to stay below 20 MPH for most areas.

Our weather pattern set up we have a lower pressure system toward our north and strong ridge further east. This is allowing our temperatures to trend slightly cooler than normal here in the Desert Southwest for now.

Temperatures will be in the low 100s throughout the week with overnight lows trending in the mid and upper 70s. I am tracking slightly warmer temperatures by Saturday plus some relief with drier conditions for the weekend.

We are in for slightly cooler temperatures again as we kick of the fall season, which will begin next Tuesday.
