Cooler but still above normal, breezy days ahead

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Temperatures across Yuma and Imperial counties are cooling slightly this week, but we're still running about 10 degrees above normal for early March.

Highs today and Wednesday will top out in the mid-80s across the lower desert communities, including Yuma and El Centro. While that's cooler than the record warmth we saw late last week, it's still well above seasonal averages.

Expect some northerly breezes this afternoon, especially along the Lower Colorado River Valley, with gusts between 20 and 30 miles per hour. Winds ease up Wednesday with generally light conditions and a mix of sunshine and passing high clouds.

Changes arrive late in the week.

A dry weather system moving in Thursday will bring another round of breezy to locally windy conditions across both counties.

Afternoon highs will also drop closer to normal, falling into the mid to upper 70s. By Friday, temperatures could dip into the lower 70s in some areas, making it the coolest day of the week.

Looking ahead to the weekend and early next week, forecast models show a developing low-pressure system potentially stalling near Baja.

While confidence is still limited, there is growing potential for some moisture to move toward the region late Sunday into Monday. At this point, rain chances remain low, but they are trending upward, especially heading into early next week.

For now, expect dry conditions through the weekend, breezy stretches Thursday and Friday, and a noticeable, but brief, cool down before temperatures rebound.
