Kochis changes from Lady King to Great Dane
Kofa senior girls soccer captain Amanda Kochis signs letter of intent to Bluefield State in West Virginia
YUMA, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - Amanda Kochis didn't have the stats to stuff box scores to get noticed. She accepted a role in her senior season for the girls soccer team that not many athletes would accept with open arms.
"She's naturally a midfielder," Kofa girls soccer head coach Santos Rangel said. "She can shoot, she can pass around, she has great vision. For us we needed a sweeper and she played sweeper and was a good sport about it."

I played sweeper or stopper depending on where my coach needed me.

The sweeper or stopper position isn't a glamour position but the are vital to the teams success in soccer. Kochis' do anything attitude is a key reason she was named as a captain during her senior year. It's also big reason why she'll continue to play soccer at the next level for the Bluefield State Great Danes in West Virginia.

"To me it was one of those moments, her coach-ability," Rangel said. "Her ability to just play the game and be someone to rely on. A good teammate and that's what makes her special."
Bluefield state is a long way away from Yuma, Arizona. Amanda says the distance doesn't bother her and she's excited to start with a program entering it's very first year in DII women's soccer.
"I wasn't scared to go anywhere out of state," Kochis said. "I found out they are a first year women's soccer program, so it made me want to set standards high and make a name for myself in my community. Exciting but also nerve wracking but i think I'll be up for it."
In high school Amanda wore #18 for the Kofa Lady Kings. She already has her number ready for her new team, the Great Danes, she'll be wearing #12 next season in West Virginia.
