FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking ongoing heat and higher humidity through Friday
A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is in effect through Friday for the hot and very humid conditions. This humidity will be making it feel much hotter outside. Make sure to stay cool and hydrated.
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - NEW RECORD WARM LOWS BROKEN for Yuma AND El Centro this morning.
Yuma reached 88 degrees this morning, beating the record warm low of 85 degrees that was set in 1958, 1998, and 2025. EL Centro reached 89 degrees, breaking the record warm low 0f 83 degrees that was set in 1958. For the low in EL Centro, it will also be a new September warm low record.
An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for the Desert Southwest until 8 p.m. FRIDAY for both Yuma and Imperial Counties.
Highs will be between 106-112 degrees with overnight lows in the low 80s and low 90s. It is also going to be humid making it feel even hotter. Our "feels like" temperatures will be between 105-117 degrees.
We have major heat risk and little to no relief from this heat, so it is important to practice heat safety all hours of the day.
Dew points will stay very elevated for the rest of the week with dew points in the 70s and 60s. This will make it feel so much hotter and very uncomfortable if you are outside.

When it is hot and we have higher humidity, it makes it feel hotter and also makes it harder to cool down. Moist air limits evaporation, which makes it harder too cool the body and also feels very uncomfortable.
That is why it is very important to practice heat safety to prevent heat-related illnesses.
We do have MAJOR heat risk this week, and what that means is anyone can be impacted by this heat if you aren't staying cool. Plus, there is little to no relief from the hot weather even during our night and morning hours.

Tracking a monsoonal set up here in the Desert Southwest. We have a ridge of high pressure in place bringing in the heat and also steering moisture from the south/southeast into our area. This is why we are having hot and humid conditions. I am also keeping an eye on chance for shower and storm activity in the days ahead.
Passing clouds will continue to move in and out of the area for the rest of the week. Could even see some light showers as well in parts of the Desert Southwest.
Heading into Thursday, we may see some light showers and sprinkles moving through the area overnight and into the morning hours. Not everyone will see rain, and those that do it will be very light.
Also, tracking chance for higher rain opportunities Friday and into the weekend.
Temperatures won't be the hottest temperatures that we have seen this year, but the humidity will make it feel even hotter, bringing in high UV Index levels. That is why a Weather Authority First Alert Action Days are in place through Friday for the heat and humidity.
We are in for cooler temperatures by the weekend and early next week. There may be an increase of rain chances Friday and this weekend as well.
