FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking extreme heat and climbing humidity

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is in effect through Friday due to dangerous temperatures and rising humidity through the week. Remember to practice heat safety all hours of the day.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA-TV)- An Air Quality Alert is issued for parts of Imperial County until 8 pm tonight due high ozone pollution.

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect until 8 p.m. FRIDAY for the Desert Southwest due to dangerously hot and humid conditions.

Highs will be between 106-114 degrees, and overnight lows between 80-91 degrees. With the heat and higher humidity, heat index levels will also be high. Our "feels like temperatures" will be between 110-120 degrees.

This extreme heat warning is also in effect due to consistent heat for the next several days and no relief even at night.

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is going to stay in effect until 8 pm Friday for the Desert Southwest due to the continuing heat and humidity.

The humidity will make it feel hotter and muggy. Potential for heat related-illnesses is possible, so remember to practice heat safety at all times.

We also have major heat risk, and what that means anyone can be impacted by this heat especially if you aren't taking action by staying hydrated and cool.

Humidity has been nice and dry these last few days, but dew points are back on the rise, which lead to very muggy conditions yet again. Tracking dew points into the upper 70s by the middle of this week.

We have a ridge of high pressure has built back into the Desert Southwest in the days ahead and this is the reason for the heat, but it will also bring in monsoonal moisture.

Chance for thunderstorm chances are expected to rise later this week.

Temperatures aren't going to be as hot on some days, but these temperatures are still dangerous and with the high humidity, it will feel hotter. Overnight lows will also be pretty toasty.

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day will stay in effect through Friday. Stay cool and hydrated.

There are chance for showers and storms being possible late this week and maybe early next week.
