Wholesale prices fell sharply in December

(NBC) - Prices for wholesale goods and services fell sharply in December, providing another sign that inflation, while still high, is beginning to ease.

Government figures say the wholesale price for goods and services dropped sharply in December, a sign that inflation may be waning.

The producer price index, compiled by the Labor Department, measures final demand prices across hundreds of categories.

That price fell by half a percentage point in December.

It's the biggest monthly decline since April 2020.

The figure was fueled by a sharp drop in energy prices.

The latest figure follows the news the consumer price index, which measures what consumers pay in the marketplace, also fell in December.
