Triple-digit and record temperatures continue, but cooler weather is on the way

A current ridge of high pressure is continuing to move more east, and it will keep us warm for now, but the good news is we finally have some changes ahead with cooler temperatures to look forward to next week.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - NEW DAILY RECORD HIGHS BROKEN for both Yuma and El Centro! Yuma reached 101 degrees, beating their record high of 100 degrees that was set back in 1986. And El Centro reached 102 degrees, beating their record of 99 degrees that was set back in 1986 and 1988.

Record highs will still be likely again tomorrow and possibly on Sunday.

Warm weather will carry into the evening, but sunset is just before 7 p.m., and once the sun goes down, it will feel much better. Winds will stay light and between 5-10 MPH, plus clouds will start to increase, but it will remain nice and dry.

As this ridge of high pressure continues to work its way to the east, it will be taking that hotter weather with it. This will allow some relief and cooler weather to move in.

There is an active storm toward our north, which will bring in some clouds and breezier conditions starting this weekend.

Winds will be a little breezier by tomorrow, especially for Yuma County, where winds will be coming from the east with gusts up to 25 MPH. So nothing too overly gusty, but since it will be warm, the breeze may feel nice.

Triple-digit and record heat will continue through Saturday, but with the extra clouds and breeze may help us feel a tad bit cooler. By the end of the weekend, we will begin a cooling trend leading to near-average temperatures by next week, as highs will cool into the mid and upper 80s.

I am tracking more clouds and breezy conditions also throughout the week next week. Moisture levels may increase, but right now, rain chances is still uncertain. I will keep an eye on it and bring more details.

Temperatures are still going to be pretty warm for late March, so remember to practice heat safety if you are going to spending time outdoors.
