SAN LUIS, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY)-As coronavirus cases continue to increase quickly county-wide and throughout the state of Arizona, local leaders are straggling to find ways to help the communities.

The Chairman of Yuma County Board of Supervisors, Tony Reyes, said last week county officials are in talks with Arizona Governor Doug Ducey about opening a potential temporary hospital to treat COVID-19 patients, and that it will help with the ongoing surge of cases.

Reyes said that the expected peak of cases in Yuma County is in mid-June.

However, county-wide cases are averaging anywhere from 100 to 200 cases a day.

Tune in to News 11 at 5 p.m. as Carmen Valencia speaks to Reyes to find out more about the potential hospital for COVID patients.
