Yuma honors one of the last survivors of the USS Arizona

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The American Legion Post 19 held a special ceremony Wednesday night for a Pearl Harbor survivor and USS Arizona crew member who died February 15th.

Donald Stratton was one of three surviving members of the USS Arizona when it was sunk during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

During a special ceremony in Yuma, members of the American Legion Post 19, presented a flag to Stratton’s niece.

In 2017, Stratton was invited to the White House where he met with President Donald Trump.

Stratton asked that the President give the Bronze Star for Valor to sailor Joe George, who he credits for saving his life.

Stratton died February 15th according to a statement from the Pearl Harbor National Memorial, he was 97-years-old.
