Protests in Austin, Texas after ICE agent shot a Venezuelan delivery driver

AUSTIN, Texas (NBC, KYMA) - Protests erupted in north Austin after an ICE agent shot and wounded a Venezuelan delivery driver.

The protests took place after 28-year-old Wilber Rafael Garces Perez was shot by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Sunday afternoon.

Austin officials say Perez was shot once in the torso and remains in serious but stable condition at a local hospital.

The shooting quickly drew demonstrators to the area, where protesters lined the sidewalks, waved Mexican flags and chanted abolish ice.

The Department of Homeland Security says Perez is stable and in federal custody pending removal.
