President Trump announces deal that grants the U.S. permanent control over security in Greenland

NUUK, Greenland (NBC, KYMA) - President Trump has announced a new deal on Greenland.

Trump says a deal was reached this week between the U.S., Denmark and Greenland giving the U.S. permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland.

Which he says addresses all of our many U.S. concerns.

The Danish Prime Minister's Office says the agreement is not expected to be signed until next week at the U.N. general assembly.

According to Denmark under the new deal, Greenland will remain part of Denmark and Greenlanders will have a right to self determination.

The full text of the deal has not been released.

Greenland is the largest island in the world and the closest landmass to the north pole sitting in the Arctic between Russia and North America.
