Pilot killed in Gold Mountain Fire honored

DENVER, Colo. (NBC, KYMA) - Coloradoans honored a pilot who was killed while fighting the Gold Mountain Fire in the state.

A procession carrying 56-year-old Nicholas Dale from the mountains to Denver International Airport made its way down I-70.

Dale's remains are being returned to his home country of Canada.

Hundreds of firefighters and community members lined the roadside on overpasses and exit ramps to pay their respects.

Dale, from Sooke, British Columbia, died July 12th when his helicopter crashed into silver jack reservoir while fighting the Gold Mountain Fire near Ouray.

He was the sole occupant of the aircraft.
