New AI feature on Instagram draws backlash

(NBC, KYMA) - A new AI tool has been added to Instagram that allows other people to use your images to generate AI content, and you may not even know.

Meta has unveiled a new product tool called 'muse image' that allows other people to use your images to generate AI content.

Which means it can use 'your' photos, if your Instagram is public, to create just about anything. It's a new reason to be wary of who sees your Instagram.

"This is just another tale of meta doing something that's quite frankly pretty sleazy, and doesn't take consumers' privacy very seriously." stated Director of AI Policy, Public Citizen, J.B. Branch.

Meanwhile, if you have a public account and want to protect 'your' images you have to opt out.

Here's how : Go into your profile, click the three lines at the top left, scroll to "Sharing and re-use," and tap. Then, go to "Allow people to use your content with a-I features," and toggle "Off."
