Seaplane carrying 8 makes hard landing in East River

NEW YORK (NBC, KYMA) - A small seaplane carrying 8 people crashed into the East River in New York today, according to New York officials.

The crash being described by witnesses as a hard landing was reported around 12 noon.

Witnesses say the plane appeared to come close to a helicopter observing a separate boat rescue prior to the seaplane crash.

Rescue boats quickly responded to the incident as the plane was bobbing in the river, caught on video by nearby on lookers.
