Tracking clearer conditions, while temps continue to rise

Weather Authority / KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Most of that cloud coverage that we experienced over the holiday weekend has moved out of the region. We're tracking clearer skies as temperatures continue to rise.

On Sunday, we're tracking highs of 109°F in both the cities of Yuma and El Centro. By Monday, we should expect to see a slight increase. With the high temp in Yuma tracking at 110°F and 111°F in El Centro.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, we are tracking an Extreme Heat Watch that has been elevated to an Extreme Heat Warning. It will begin Tuesday morning and last through the evening on Thursday. Temps will be ranging between 111°F and 116°F.

With this work week extreme heat looming, be sure to be following those heat safety tips while working. Drinking water at least every 20 minutes, if working outside taking regularly scheduled rest breaks and spending time in air conditioned spaces or finding shade as often as possible.

Those cloudy conditions we saw to begin the holiday weekend have passed for the most part. Along with those stronger wind gusts.

Gusts on Sunday evening around 6:30 p.m. are tracking to be in the 13-16 mile per hour range in Yuma County. While Imperial County should expect to see gusts in the 21-25 mile per hour range.

Over night and into the morning the gusts will calm down, moving into the single-digits across most of the region by Monday morning. By Monday evening, we are tracking similar wind speeds to Sunday's evening winds.

Conditions will be clear and winds should be calm through the week. But, be sure to stay safe and cool during the extreme heat that will hit our region on Tuesday.
