BRIGHTSIDE: A second chance for Jesus

A Somerton boy got a second chance at life after an All-Terrain Vehicle accident in 2017. He’s now working hard to get back to a life of normalcy.

Jesus was just an ordinary high school freshman who played football at Kofa High School in 2017. Then one day, Jesus’s life changed after him and his best friend were in an accident.

The two flew into a canal in their ATV, and unfortunately, the accident took the life of Jesus’ best friend.

Luckily at the time of the accident, there was an Arizona Public Service worker who was working in the remote area of the canal and was able to contact emergency personnel while trying to save the lives of the boys as well.

Since the accident, Jesus’ has been on a long journey of recovery who his mother says hasn’t been easy for him or his family.

Jesus has been through physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. He has come a long way since the accident and only hopes to improve his functions more and more.

Just recently Jesus celebrated his 18th birthday with cake and food among the presence of his loving family.

He also paid a visit to the Somerton-Cocopah firefighters who responded on the day of the accident and sat down with them to eat. Something he just started to do on his own only eight months ago.

The Somerton-Cocopah Firefighters expressed to Jesus how happy they are that he survived the accident and was able to get together two years later for this visit.

Even though Jesus has been through a lot, and some things will never be the same, he keeps a high spirit and only hopes that one day he can have a sense of normalcy in his life.
