Local dog gets featured on 2024 calendar

Enzo the golden retriever's owners share how he's changed their lives

WELLTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Enzo, a two-year-old golden retriever from Wellton is quite the star as he's featured on the month of May in the 2024 Southern Arizona Golden Retriever Rescue (SAGRR) calendar.

His owners Elaine and Steve Owens are members of the SAGRR, and the organization held a raffle to raise money for their mission, which is to rescue and re-home adoptable golden retrievers in Southern Arizona in safe, loving homes.

"So we entered a raffle and they chose 13 dogs and Enzo was one of them," says Elaine. "We had him put on the May calendar because his birthday's the 13th of May and we are so proud of him. He's doing amazing."

Enzo was re-homed to the Owens by someone who was highly allergic to him.

Elaine and Steve say he's the best thing that's ever happened to them.

Enzo is Steve's service dog who helps him get through his day.

"Steve, is a former marine and he suffers with PTSD and Enzo has been a wonderful, wonderful help to him in his daily life, just dealing with, you know, social situations," says Elaine.

Steve says you can't train a dog to love you the way Enzo loves him.

"He's with me constantly. If if I feel anxiety, he comes in and loves me. If I'm sick and in bed, he's got to be in bed with me. You just can't know how much this dog means to me and and our family," Steve says. "He's just a blessing."

Enzo loves the attention and has many tricks up his paw, which include saying his prayers.

Elaine and Steve say he loves ice cream, road trips and the dog beach in San Diego is his favorite.

If you would like to support Enzo and SAGRR, the calendar is available for $10.
