PHOENIX, Ariz. (KYMA) - The Phoenix Suns have made their first major move of the offseason, agreeing to a four-year, $48 million contract with point guard Collin Gillespie.

The 26-year-old guard was set to enter free agency following the best season of his NBA career. Gillespie averaged nearly 13 points, 4.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game while emerging as a key contributor in Phoenix's backcourt.

Gillespie's path to a long-term NBA contract has been anything but traditional. After going undrafted in 2022 out of Villanova, he began his professional career on a two-way contract with the Denver Nuggets before joining the Suns on a two-way deal during the 2024-25 season.

His strong play during his first year in Phoenix earned him a league-minimum contract entering last season. Gillespie then took advantage of an expanded role, starting 58 games and becoming one of the Suns' most reliable players throughout the year.

With free agency set to officially begin on June 30, the Suns moved quickly during the league's negotiation window to secure one of their top offseason priorities. By reaching an agreement before the open market, Phoenix ensures the return of a player who became an important piece of the team's rotation.

The Suns hope Gillespie's continued development can help them take the next step after several disappointing postseason exits. Phoenix is looking to advance beyond the first round of the NBA Playoffs for the first time since 2023, and retaining one of its key contributors was a major step toward that goal.
