FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking intense heat on the way

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is staying in effect through Sunday due to a prolonged heatwave. Tracking some of the hottest temperatures of the year by the weekend.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is still in effect until 8 pm Sunday due to the hot weather conditions for the next several days.

An Extreme Heat Warning is staying in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday for the entire Desert Southwest due to major and extreme heat risks.

Highs will be between 110-121 degrees, and overnight lows between 86-96 degrees.

Heading out to dinner this evening, it is National Chicken Wing Day! Make sure to dine indoors for dinner because of the hot and humid night ahead.

It's also the full Buck Moon tonight, it will be pretty warm to stargaze, but it is worth to go take a look at the moon, which will be shining big and bright. Moonrise is at 8 pm.

This ridge of high pressure will continue to strengthen, bringing back intense heat later this week and some of the hottest temperatures of the year so far.

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is in effect until 8 pm Sunday for the Desert Southwest for dangerous and ongoing heat.

Tracking even hotter temperatures to return later this week and into the weekend with highs nearing or reaching 120. Also watching for any record breaking temperatures.

It's going to be a very hot start to August. I am tracking cooler and finally some relief toward the end of next week.
