Mariners complete sweep of Diamondbacks with 10 inning walk-off win

SEATTLE, Wash. (KYMA) - The Arizona Diamondbacks struggles continued Sunday afternoon as the Seattle Mariners completed a three-game series sweep with a 3-2 walk-off victory in 10 innings at T-Mobile Park.

Arizona entered the game looking to snap its losing streak behind starting pitcher Merrill Kelly, but Seattle struck first in the second inning. Mariners second baseman Cole Young drove a ball down the right field line for a solo home run. Giving the home team an early 1-0 advantage.

Seattle starter Bryce Miller kept the Diamondbacks offense in check for much of the afternoon. The right-hander recorded six strikeouts, including a swinging strikeout of Ryan Waldschmidt on a sharp sweeper in the fourth inning.

The Diamondbacks finally broke through later in the sixth inning when a wild pitch from Seattle reliever Luis Castillo allowed Corbin Carroll to score, tying the contest.

The Mariners responded in the bottom half of the inning as Dominic Canzone launched a solo home run, restoring Seattle's lead at 2-1. Both of Seattle's homers off Kelly came on fastballs that Mariners hitters were able to square up.

Arizona battled back in the eighth inning. Ketel Marte delivered a fly ball to left-center field that allowed Gabriel Moreno, who had entered earlier in the inning as a pinch hitter, to score and knot the game at 2-2.

The game remained tied through nine innings, sending the contest into extras.

After the Diamondbacks were unable to score in the top of the 10th, Seattle capitalized in the bottom half. Victor Robles put a sinker from Jonathan Loáisiga in play. A bobble by shortstop Geraldo Perdomo on a tough diving stop officially brought home the winning run as the Mariners secured the 3-2 walk-off victory.

The loss completed a series sweep for Seattle and marked Arizona's third consecutive defeat. Meanwhile, the Mariners extended their winning streak to a season-high six games.

The Diamondbacks will look to regroup and end their skid in their next series, but it won't get any easier as they host the National League leading Los Angeles Dodgers. While Seattle continues to build momentum atop the American League West.
