FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking increasing heat and record potential into the weekend

I am tracking some of the hottest temperatures of the summer and nearing record potential this weekend. A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is EXTENDED into Monday for the continuing extreme heat.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - An Extreme Heat Warning is staying in effect and has been EXTENDED for the yet again until 8 p.m. Monday for the entire Desert Southwest due to major and extreme heat risk.

Highs will be between 111-121 degrees, and overnight lows between 80-94 degrees.

Temperatures will slowly cool down through the night prepare for another warm and humid night ahead. If you are going out for dinner make sure to get cheesecake for dessert to celebrate National Cheesecake Day!

A ridge of high pressure will center itself over our region and strengthen late this week, resulting in near record territory temperatures and extreme heat risks.

Also, tracking drier air that will be filtering in later this week.

Due to the hot weather, it is influencing air quality as well. An Air Quality Alert is issued for parts of Imperial County due to high ozone levels. This will go into effect from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday.

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is in effect and EXTEDNED until 8 pm MONDAY for the Desert Southwest for dangerous and ongoing heat.

Tracking even hotter temperatures to return later this week and into the weekend with highs nearing or reaching 120. Also watching for any record breaking temperatures.

It's going to be a very hot start to August. I am tracking cooler and finally some relief toward the end of next week.
