Alek Thomas heads to division foe

After five years with the Snakes, Thomas is headed to Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KYMA) - Former Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Alek Thomas is headed to Hollywood after being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday.

The Dodgers acquired the 26-year-old from Arizona after Thomas was designated for assignment last week.

Thomas has struggled offensively this season, batting .181 with two home runs across 100 plate appearances. Despite those numbers, he remains a memorable part of Arizona’s 2023 postseason run.

The former second-round draft pick hit four home runs during the Diamondbacks’ run to the World Series, including a game-tying homer against the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Championship Series.

In exchange for Thomas, the Dodgers sent 17-year-old outfield prospect Jose Requena to Arizona.

Thomas is expected to provide Los Angeles with defensive depth in center field and a left-handed bat, though reports indicate he is not expected to immediately join the major league roster.
